Protected areas on the news!

Dr. A. Santangeli explains here why protected areas are insufficient to reduce the current biodiversity loss. They should be larger, better connected but efforts should be made outside the areas with a more sustainable agricultures and practices.

GEDA on Air and at the Science Week 2019 !

Egyptian Vultures on Spanish National TV !


The work by A. Sanz-Aguilar and colleagues (here) was presented on National TV (LaSexta channel, Estacion La Sexta 25/02/2019). The report correctly insists on education as a key factor for the success al effort in wildlife conservation programs.  The egyptian voluture in Canary Islands is a successful example of scientific-based conservation actions conducted in parallel with educational programs.

GEDA at "Meteo y Natura"

Ana Sanz-Aguilar explains the results from a meta-analysis investigating whether seabirds adapt their breeding phenology to the recent warming of the sea temperature. The study used the long-term data of nearly 200 seabird populations. Among them those studied by the GEDA. The full interview can be viewed here (at min 4:30)

APHIS under the spotlight !

The software APHIS for individual photo-identification developed by the GEDA in collaboration with Dr. Ó. Moya (Fundacion IBIT) was on IB3 news today! 
APHIS builds on an existing approach (I3S) adding the possibility to process photos in batches and the original ITM procedure which minimizes pre-processing time.
